Hitler without a mustacheI was just about to post this, and Andrew beat me to it. Great minds think alike.
This is a haunting experiment in the analysis of symbols, icons, and meaning. Look at what simply removing a pin, shaving a mustache, and adding color do for Hitler. This is no mere shaving of a mustache. He’s humanized. But there’s a peculiar kitsch aspect to it as well that I can’t put my finger on. There’s a mountain of meaning beneath this surface to be dug up. And it’s probably not an entirely accidental convergence that swastikas came to Maudie’s mind recently and this pops up too.
